Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity is located in Independence, Mo. We are a member of Habitat for Humanity, International, which organization is known for building decent, safe and affordable places to live. Home–just the word evokes emotional feelings of safety and love for many of us.

Seniors who remain in their home of many years sometimes are no longer safe there. Stairs once climbed with babies and laundry balanced can be terrifying with inner-ear problems and/or leg strength challenges. In the past year, Truman Habitat has begun programming and grant procurement for seniors (age 62+) whose homes are no longer the safe harbors they once were. Sure, there are nursing homes, but not all seniors want or need that level of care.

Truman Heritage Habitat believes that many seniors are just fine in their own home once it’s made safe by renovations such as:
- Bathroom Grab Bars
- Accessible Entry/Exit
- One level living – bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and washer/dryer accessibility.
Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity also has two Restores (Independence & Blue Springs) at which we can accept clean, used durable medical equipment and other items. We thank Re.Use.Full for including us in Un-Dumpster Days on June 4, where we accepted items to be sold to benefit Truman Habitat’s projects.
Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity may not service your location (we serve Eastern Jackson county, east of I-435); however, we’re not the only Habitat in Missouri or Kansas. Contact your local Habitat to see whether they offer Aging in Place services.

We wish you long life and safety! If we can help, please call us at 816.461.6551.
